Ashley and Becky Denton

Those who have traveled from the western to the eastern hemisphere know that as you traverse the 180 degree line of longitude, a.k.a. the International Dateline, you immediately move forward into the next calendar date. In fact, Japan is known as the "Land of the Rising Sun" and is one of the first nations to greet each new day. A menacing darkness holds sway over a huge portion of the East, however, specifically East and Southeast Asia; and, it is in this region that Ashley and Becky Denton, and their children, minister.

The continental East Asian nations along with the Southeast Asian islands represent half of the world's entire population. In fact, China and India alone represent more than 2 billion of the world's 6.6 billion souls. Even in Japan, a country where churches and missions have enjoyed a period of political openness, there is still only 1% of the national population involved in churches. Persecution of Christians within this region of the world is prevalent, but sometimes the name of Christ has a different response other than hatred. In a recent trip to Nepal, Ashley asked a young man if he had ever heard of Jesus Christ. With a blank look, he said, "We have never heard of this man." "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" - Romans 10:14

This is the great spiritual task which the Dentons, through Nexus Vivus International, have undertaken. Having formerly worked on staff with Young Life for 15 years, they have a passion for both leadership development of youth missionaries as well as engaging international youth with the gospel. Their ministry emulates that of Paul and Barnabas in that their calling is to pioneer new youth ministries in Asia, and then to subsequently equip and encourage indigenous leaders to share the gospel to their families and towns. A new day is dawning in the East; it is not the sun's glow warming faces from the outside, but the light of the Lord Christ shining from within the lives of new believers who radiate His goodness in the midst of hovering bondage in the lands of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Communism. "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." - Isaiah 9:2

Send a note of encouragement to the Dentons and/or request their newsletter so that you can receive continual updates on how to intercede specifically for them and their ministry in East and Southeast Asia. Pray for health and safety as they travel and minister the light of Christ.
